Kurkara (desert oak) Uluru

Kurkara (desert oak) trees at Ayers Rock Resort next to Uluru and Kata Tjuta. The young trees will have just a slender stalk while their taproot searches for the water table as much as 30 meters (90 feet) below the surface. Once the taproot reaches the water table, the part above the ground will branch out. The young trees remind me of the trees of the Dr Seuss books. Picture taken in July 2006. This image is 42% size of the original.
