The left image shows Bob Simon with what I think is the single-pixel prototype for a multi-pixel K-band array under development. All of the parts are custom-made on-site. Signals are enhanced millions of times. Most of the cylindrical space will be enclosed and cooled to just a few degrees above absolute zero using liquid helium. You can see the dewar shroud to the left of the feedhorn assembly.
The right image shows a close-up of the single-pixel prototype for a multi-pixel K-band array under development. The K-band is a frequency range of 18-27.5 GHz (1.09 to 1.67 cm wavelength).
