South side of the Bell Tower that stands at the very center of Xian. The wooden tower stands 36 meters high on a brick base that is 35.5 meters long by 8.6 meters high on each side. The tower was built in 1384 by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. When it was first built it was closer to the Drum Tower but was moved 1000 meters east to its present location in 1582 to the new geographic center of Xian.
