Each of the 1081 figurines pieced together so far (of the over 8000 total figures thought to be in the three pits) are unique individuals, most likely modeled on actual soldiers in Emperor Qin's army. In 2004, a local newspaper ran a contest to find 10 people who looked exactly like some of the figures. Apparently they found some which goes to show that there are descendants of the Emperor Qin's warriors walking the streets of Xi'an today.
