Restored chariot #1. In Dec. 1980, two sets of painted bronze chariots and horses were discovered in a large pit 20 meters from Emperor Qin's tomb mound. Originally in a wooden coffin, they had been broken up in thousands of pieces when the wood rotted and the earth above collapsed. After 8 years of restoration work, the chariots were moved to the Museum 1.5 kilometers away from the mound. The chariots, horses+drivers are half life-size. It is 2.57 meters long and weighs 1061 kilograms.
The two chariots are displayed in a dimly lit room of the museum. This and the next two images were taken on the automatic setting which meant that the camera used a very slow shutter speed. Therefore, the images are a bit blurry from my slight shake (even with image stabilization!).
