Pan Xiaoling at work on one of her paintings in the Farmers Painting Gallery that was in the same building as the Terra Cotta Gallery in Xi'an. In the farmers (or peasants) painting program, promising artists are trained to create works of art drawn from their life experiences in the rural villages in HuXian County. Pan Xiaoling is the most famous of these artists and has trained many other farmer painters over the past 30+ years. Born in 1956, she began her painting career at the age of 18. Here Pan Xiaoling is painting a mother panda and cub in a bamboo forest.
