Golden Gate Yellowstone

Named for the light-colored volcanic rock, the "Golden Gate" connects the Mammoth Hot Springs part of the park with the Yellowstone Plateau. It is just south of Mammoth Hot Springs on the western leg of the northern loop road. In the late 1880s, this route saved at least a half day's travel up the plateau (it was a wooden trustle back then). Image taken mid-June 2008. This image is 42% size of original.
